
FROM THE OLIVES TO THE OIL
The olive harvest is a practice handed down from one generation to another. In Puglia the harvest time starts at the beginning of November, when there’s the opening of oil mills, and it continues till the end of December. From olives picked in this period it is made the best extra virgin oil with 0 acidity or something more. In our countryside, where there are thousands of centuries-old olive trees, the harvest time is often a festival for families and friends who use to meet and enjoy the time together. A party atmosphere that Apulia – La Finestra sul mare would like to offer to people who will choose this tour. Riding a mountain bike or by a minibus, you will arrive in a field of very old olive trees nearby a large farm built during the Sixteenth century, where you will pick olives using different techniques with local farmers. During the day you will have a light lunch with typical Apulian products and everything you need to live an authentic and comfortable experience. In the afternoon we will take the picked olives to a local oil mill, where you will see the modern techniques that we use to make oil and then taste the extra virgin oil just made. Finally you will receive bottles or tins of extra virgin oil made by the olives that you picked during the day, as a nice souvenir of this authentic experience lived in Monopoli countryside with local farmers.
