THE WATER CYCLE
It’s a tourist bike route that follows the conduct of the largest aqueduct in Europe, which for over a century has been bringing water from Campania to Santa Maria di Leuca, in southern Puglia. Our tour develops in the heart of the Itria Valley along the 15 km of the water cycle path that has been refurbished by the Puglia Region. It starts from the Pineta Ulmo, in Ceglie Messapica countryside and it goes to Locorotondo along a largely elevated stretch that guarantees a wonderful panorama of the surrounding nature. The path is marked by five canal bridges that cross olive groves, vineyards and fragno woods. Then there are lots of trulli, the typical stone houses with a cone-shaped roof, that embellish the valleys of this authentic Puglia. The water cycle path ends 5 km from Locorotondo, but before to arrive to the city of the “cummerse” through a marked route, we suggest you to visit the Pomona Gardens, a singular orchard that holds 560 varieties of fig trees.
