TOUR THROUGH TRULLI AND CAVES
The caves and the trullo-houses, together with the millennial olive trees and the old town centres are really characteristic elements of this part of Apulia. Apulia – La Finestra sul Mare suggests a trip by car which includes a visit to the “Grotta del Trullo” in Putignano and the impressing trullo-houses of Alberobello. The “Grotta del Trullo”, the cave which was discovered back in 1931, is only 2 meters deep and has the shape of a bell. You have access to it via a trullo and accompanied by a guide from the local research centre of Putignano, you go down in an environment full of stalactites and stalagmites which looks like human profiles, animals and monuments. After this visit we move on towards Alberobello to admire the fantastic landscape of the trullo houses built by dry stones with their typical conical roofs, that are on UNESCO’s list of heritages from 1996. This tour also includes a visit in the Trullo Sovrano, the only one trullo with two floors, that is a private home-museum, and a visit in the Santi Medici Cosma and Damiano Church. There will also be time for a bit of souvenir shopping between the trullo-houses before going back to Monopoli.
