TRULLO HOUSES, SEA AND FARMS
From Alberobello to Monopoli we ride a mountain bike in one of the most spectacular roads in Puglia. The tour starts visiting Alberobello, the capital of trullo-houses declared Unesco Heritage, with its museum of farming culture in Trullo Sovrano and the Santi Medici Cosma and Damiano church. After a quick coffee break, we continue on the bicycles riding in picturesque narrow roads among trulli. The way to Monopoli is full of ups and downs, but our struggle is rewarded with the wonderful landscape that is characteristic in this area of Murgia hills: Fortified farms – so called Masserie – wheat fields, vineyards, cherry trees and oak woods. Half way we will stop in a masseria for a light lunch based on local products. Next stop on the bike tour is the little simple and beautiful church called San Michele in Frangesto (XI century) with its fantastic view on the plain of centuries old olive trees. The route down to the sea is really relaxing. Five kilometers downwards following old paths to one of the most authentic masseria in the area. This will be the last stop before riding back to Monopoli’s old town center on the Adriatic Sea, where we will have a nice tasting of typical Apulian products.
