VALLE D’ITRIA: LOCOROTONDO AND MARTINA FRANCA
Puglia is dry walls, pure countryside, trulli, breath-taking panoramas, nature and relax. Among the most beautiful and fascinating areas of our region there is the “Valle d’Itria. It’s the land among Bari, Taranto and Brindisi areas. A magic valley with enchanting towns as Locorotondo, one of the most beautiful villages of Italy, that won the “Orange Flag” by Touring Club. Its name comes from the disposition of houses in circular ways like rings on the top of the hill. If you take a look at Locorotondo from a faraway place, it looks like a white crown surrounded by flowers. But if you walk through its narrow streets you are fascinated by “cummerse”, the typical roofs composed by dry stones. You can also admire the Tower of the clock and the Cathedral dedicated to Saint George. Not far from Locorotondo there’s Martina Franca, a nice city in Taranto area. Its historical centre is characterized by elegant Baroque elements over older monuments. It is an enjoyable walk along its streets, from the Ducal Palace with its painted rooms, built during XVIII century over the medieval castle, to the Cathedral dedicated to Saint Martin and Piazza Immocalata with its elegant colonnade.
It’s necessary to book the tours in advance.
